Emily's areas of practice include contract and company law, delict and defamation, competition law, banking, finance and insurance, administrative and public law, human rights, media and broadcasting, and general commercial litigation. She has acted as counsel in arbitrations and court litigation, including appearing in the Supreme Court of Appeal and the High Court in a number of commercial and other disputes, and in the Constitutional Court on behalf of civil society organisations. Her recent work includes commercial, insurance, company and public law disputes for multinational corporations, commercial banks and Lloyd's syndicates; defamation and broadcasting matters for investigative journalists and broadcasters; constitutional litigation for NGOs; and class action litigation in the mining sector.

Before joining the Bar, Emily served as a law clerk to Justice Khampepe at the Constitutional Court and practised as an attorney in the insurance litigation team at Norton Rose Fulbright. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Master of Philosophy in Law from the University of Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.
