Kate graduated magna cum laude and first in her class at the University of Cape Town in 2020.
She was the winner of class medals for Delict, Corporations Law, Criminal Law, Foundations of South African Law, and African Customary Law. She was also awarded the LexisNexis Butterworths Prize for the best student in 2019, the Bar Council Moot Prize for the best student in mooting, the Norton Rose Fulbright Prize, the Scheepers Memorial Scholarship, the Mike Blackman Memorial Prize, and the Ben Beinart Memorial Scholarship.
Kate has also ranked as the best individual speaker in the world at the World Schools Debating Championships, held in Singapore in 2015, has been named the Best Speaker in the UCT Moot Society Moot Court Competition, and was personally chosen for an ad hoc award of “Best Presenter” by former Constitutional Court Justices O’Reagan and Sachs at the Kate O’Reagan Moot Court Competition.
Kate adopts a fresh and open-minded approach to the law and to litigation. Her interests are broad and range most areas of law, particularly human rights and public interest litigation, contract law, delict, corporate commercial law, procurement law, and labour law.
