INVITATION TO APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP
1. Advocates Group 621 invites applications for membership from current pupils.
2. Each application should comprise:
2.1 a covering letter motivating the applicant’s interest in membership of the group;
2.2 a curriculum vitae;
2.3 a complete academic transcript of the applicant’s tertiary education; and
2.4 two letters of reference (Applicants are welcome to submit their letters of reference sourced at the time of applying for pupillage. Any additional letters of reference specific to Group 621 will be considered but are not mandatory).
3. Each application should be addressed to Michelle Le Roux SC (chair of the group’s membership committee) and Mpho Sethaba (secretary of the committee), and emailed to applications@group621.co.za
4. Please note that:
4.1 the deadline for the submission of applications is at 16h30 on Friday, 12 June 2026;
4.2 Group 621 reserves the right to invite and/or accept applications after this deadline;
4.3 Group 621 currently has housing constraints which will determine how many new members it can accommodate in 2027. It is highly unlikely that more than 2 (two) places are available;
4.4 the committee envisages shortlisting up to eight applicants and thereafter selecting the successful candidate(s);
4.5 applicants should be willing to share chambers until private chambers become available;
4.6 to assist the committee in making its selection, each shortlisted applicant will be asked to submit a brief written response to a legal question and to attend an interview with the members of the committee;
4.7 at the start of each interview, the shortlisted applicant will be asked to make a brief oral presentation of their response to the question; and
4.8 all applicants will receive the legal question after submitting their applications. (Only shortlisted applicants will be required to submit their response to it)
5. In line with the request from the Bar Council that no membership interviews and offers be made to pupils until after the completion of the Legal Practice Council examinations, applicants will only be notified of the outcome of the shortlisting process on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
5.1 As matters stand, it is envisaged by the committee that:
5.1.1 the deadline for the submission of written responses to the legal question by shortlisted candidates will be at 16h30 on Wednesday, 23 September 2026; and
5.1.2 interviews will be conducted in person on Saturday, 3 October 2026.
